MS Excel Tip: Using the Ctrl & Shift Key to select specific cells

The neat thing about using the control and shift keys is that their function is similar throughout the computing Environment.

In Windows Explorer, holding down the ctrl key enables one to cherry pick multiple files or folders at the same time. Holding the shift key enables one to select a “first” and “last” file with everything in-between.

This principle translates very neatly into the Excel environment. Holding the ctrl key enables one to cherry pick multiple disconnected cells, holding down the shift key enables one to select a range. Once selected these can be formatted, deleted or even copied to another sheet. The same function can also be applied to columns and rows.
