Excel Tip – Using the Format Painter multiple times

The Excel Format Painter is a wonderful tool. To be able to copy all the formatting from one cell and apply it over other cells is a real time-saver. If you need to apply the copied format more than once though, then a simple double-click on the Format Painter command will enable you to paint till your heart’s content! Once done, click on the escape (esc) key. So much easier than having to keep on reselecting the Format Painter command on the Home Ribbon. Just goes to show that it pays to read the screen tips from time to time. They actually have some very useful info!

Excel Tip – Quickest way to move a column!

Most times using a keyboard shortcut is quicker than using a mouse. Sometimes though, it’s a nifty combination of the two that does the trick! The standard way of moving a column within a range of data is to right-click on the column header, select “Cut”, then right click on the Column to the right of where you want to insert it and select “Insert Cut Cells”. Quicker method? Use your mouse - to Drag and Drop! The trick though is to hold down the shift key at the same time to force an insert as opposed to an overwrite.
