Alt Key Code Shortcuts

In a previous tip we highlighted that if a menu command has a shortcut, if you hover over the icon it will give you the shortcut in brackets. If there is no dedicated short cut assigned, it doesn’t mean that the only way to access this feature is by using your mouse. The Alt Key Code shortcuts enable you to access any Menu Item using your Keyboard. Simply press the Alt Key. Letters representing each of the Main Menu items will appear next to each item. Pressing a letter will select this item and then in turn put a letter against each of the commands for that menu. Keyboard Shortcut (F4) – Format Repeater

We often need to repeat a particular format on cells that are not necessarily connected. Even using the Format Painter which enables us to apply more than one Format at a time can be time-consuming as we need to keep on re-selecting it. The Function Key F4 enables us to Repeat the last Formatting action. It’s important to note that this is not a shortcut to repeat the Format Painter. The Format Painter re-applies all formats from the copied cell(s). The F4 key simply applies the last Formatting action. Hint: To get this feature to apply more than one format at a time, use the Format Dialogue box (ctrl + 1) to apply multiple formats initially instead of using the Commands on the Home Ribbon.
